Case Study Overview

Our customer delivers comprehensive, end-to-end semiconductor and systems-engineering services, encompassing every stage from integrated circuit (IC) design and testing to product engineering and printed circuit board (PCB) layout. They further extend their expertise into failure analysis and embedded-systems development, providing a robust foundation for innovation. By serving a diverse range of sectors—including automotive, avionics, data centers, and industrial applications—they combine deep technical knowledge with a customer-centric approach. This unique blend enables them to drive forward innovative, reliable solutions that meet the evolving demands of global markets.

In today’s world, critical infrastructure such as pipelines, remote machinery, and environmental sensors require highly dependable, low-power connectivity solutions. These connections are essential not only for predictive maintenance but also to meet stringent regulatory compliance standards. Our customer addresses these challenges by deploying a compact LTE Cat 1bis gateway designed specifically for these remote, isolated sites. This gateway streams vital data—including alarms, performance metrics, and location information—directly to central monitoring dashboards, facilitating real-time oversight and proactive management.

At the heart of this connectivity solution lies Cavli’s C16QS module, which optionally supports eSIM technology and integrates GNSS for precise location tracking. Built on a powerful Arm M3 processor clocked at 204 MHz, and equipped with 1.25 MB of RAM and 4 MB of ROM, this module runs FreeRTOS with Device Firmware Over-The-Air (DFOTA) capabilities. Its LGA form factor makes it a highly cost-effective option, validated for Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) use cases, ensuring robust and reliable LTE Cat 1bis connectivity. Importantly, the C16QS module incorporates multiple power-saving modes to significantly extend battery life in field deployments, addressing a critical need for energy efficiency in remote operations.
